SURFACE FRIENDLY WAVE SPRINGS - Another step towards improving bearing life.
Applying a permanent thrust load to a bearing assembly is important for a secure and successful installation. The bearing preload process extends component lifetimes by eliminating unnecessary clearances, creating high stiffness and reducing noise and vibration. Engineers like to select a spring with a high axial load to ultimately prolong bearing life.
The design of standard single turn wave springs with gap features sharp corners at the cut off area of the spring ends. But the sharp corners can scratch the surface of the bearing as well as the mating parts when the wave form shows a steep incline depending on the load specification. This debris can lead to failure of the bearing as well as the entire application.
Rotor Clip's patented design solves this problem by flattening the ends of the spring so that they will glide over mating parts and not create excessive wear that can damage the application. Another advantage of the flattened spring ends is that they are less likely to slip into the bearing cage and disrupt bearing performance during operating conditions.
As with all of our wave spring designs, there is no tooling cost for custom designs with this end feature. The possibility of different flat wire dimensions offers unlimited number of specification criteria to meet customer requirements for specific spring characteristics.
Wave springs are available in standard materials and exotic alloys. Standard materials include carbon steel - oil tempered(SAE 1070 - 1090),carbon steel - hard drawn(SAE 1060 - 1075),Stainless Steel-AISI 302 and AISI 316, as well as 17-7PH stainless steel.
