Rugged hinges for harsh conditions

Trackway is a portable roadway system used by over 30 armed forces worldwide often in the harshest conditions imaginable.

The system is manufactured in Anglesey by Faun UK, which has recently won a large order from a Southern European defence ministry. To satisfy the rugged requirements of the application, heavy duty hinges were specified for the vehicle mounted tool lockers for the Trackway system.

The portable roadway is manufactured from aluminium and can be rapidly deployable for use as temporary airfields, helipads and tank tracks. The system is also used for rapid runway repairs and amphibious and beach landings. Commercial uses for Trackway include temporary access to areas without roads. The products are mounted onto a dispenser vehicle, which can deploy 32m of portable roadway in just six minutes. The tools used in these operations are stored in lockers, fitted with heavy duty hinges from Camlock.

Faun is well known for its refuse collection and road sweeping vehicles but also manufactures the Trackway product for defence applications. The company has been manufacturing military products for over 60 years and is part of the Kirchhoff Group, which has vehicle manufacturing plants in 12 countries.
