International success for welding system

MacGregor Welding Systems has developed a fully automated welding system for a printer manufacturer.

At the centre of the system are two DC 1001P micro resistance welding power supplied and a number of Mach 1 'weld by wire' weld heads which offer closed loop force control. During the production assembly and integration work MacGregor appointed Huxley Bertram Engineering, based in Cambridge, to use "its expertise in mechanical handling" to complete the fully automated assembly line. The system uses precision product handling to align thermistors to ceramic heaters before presenting them or welding, reports Tessa MacGregor, marketing manager. "This requires an accuracy of 20 microns due to the small sizes of the components involved. "This successful project, now installed and operating in the Far east, shows that British engineering companies can compete on the world stage."
