Data matrix code allows intelligent toolholder management

1 min read

Clamping technology specialist Schunk has claimed another milestone with the introduction of data matrix coding to its product range. From now on, many precision toolholders can be marked with an individual data matrix code that allows for intelligent toolholder management.

Regardless of whether it is done manually by smart phone or fully automated with a machine tool scanner, every toolholder can now be reliably identified with the help of a specific code. Combining this with the corresponding data base system, the toolholders can be assigned to the exact machine tool or process. Within the framework of intelligent manufacturing processes, it is possible to generate a precise history together with the data from the central system with sites of operation, tools used, service life and machining parameters. According to the individual systematic arrangement of documents, the data matrix code can be individually defined. In contrast to the glued on RFID tags, which require the re-balancing of the toolholders, the data matrix code is permanent and has no influence on the balancing quality. The individual marking can be done for every Tendo hydraulic expansion toolholder (except Tendo E compact), and with every Tribos polygonal toolholder.
