UV/visible light cure

1 min read

The 30F-404 one-component adhesive from ThreeBond can be cured by ultra-violet light and/or visible light between 200Nm and 400Nm.

ThreeBond has noted that there are application factors that favour a visible light-curing adhesive over an exclusive ultra-violet light cure process, says Mick Beeson. "The 30F-404 offers a way of dealing with this; for example, in situations in which the substrate attenuates ultra-violet light. Engineering plastics intended for outdoor use, for example, usually have an ultra-violet absorbing agent added to prevent deterioration. This makes it difficult to bond such materials by using ultra-violet curing resin." Typical applications for the new adhesive include the adhesion and sealing of electrical/electronic components while providing mechanical and chemical resistance - cure is effected in seconds thus offering cost savings and greater security/reliability performance. ThreeBond believes that 30F-404 will find use in glass bonding, fixing of liquid crystal display pins, fixing injection needles, balancing electric motors, fixing wires, coating printed circuit boards, and component encapsulation. ThreeBond will be exhibiting at the Fastening & Assembly Solutions Show, National Motorcycle Museum, 23 October
