New 'Atlas Spin-Tite' stainless steel half-hex shank threaded inserts from PennEngineering are said to give "superior corrosion resistance and provide fastening hardware solutions for blind attachment applications where only one side of a panel is accessible".
The products offer an option to tapped holes, weld nuts, rivets, and self-drilling or tapping screws, says Michael Rossi, Penn Engineering. "Close-to-edge mounting is a feature; the hex body design for installation into hex holes promotes high resistance to rotation; and a low profile head minimises protrusions." Mounting can be in panels of any hardness down to 0.020in, and the fasteners can be installed at any stage of assembly using a hand-held, portable spin-pull tool.
"An added advantage is that during fastener installation several thin sheets of dissimilar materials can be assembled before final components are attached", reports Michael Rossi. "This capability eliminates any need to spot weld or perform other secondary operation thus saving production time and costs." Made from 300 series stainless steel the inserts are available in unified and metric sizes from M4 to M8.
