Sealing boxes? Tape versus Hot Melt adhesive which is the best solution?

1 min read

Does your packing department use tape to seal your cardboard boxes? Ever wondered if there was more to life than being wrapped up in tape? Could hot melt adhesive be the way forward? Techsil decided to put it to the test, Tape versus Hot melt - the show down!

Traditionally, like many other companies, Techsil had always used tape to seal the boxes of materials that we send out to our customers. As a seller of packaging grade hot melt we wondered if there would be a cost or time saving benefits of using hot melt to seal our boxes instead. We decided to put the two methods through their paces. Using Techsil's TECbond 11-12 hot melt glue with a TEC 810-12 glue gun against a standard packing tape and dispenser, we set up a challenge to two of our warehouse operatives to see who would be the fastest at sealing 3 of our standard sized boxes. Watch our video where tape and hot melt go head to head – www.techsil.co.uk/hotmeltvideos You will see that even using a small sample of only 3 boxes, sealing with hot melt is quicker and also costs an impressive 35% less than using tape. The hot melt adhesive also gives a neat and tidy finish and forms a strong bond which means that even heavy contents are secure. With all of these advantages, Techsil now uses hot melt adhesive as the preferred method of sealing boxes in our packing department.
