Working with the company’s time and motion team it was concluded that the time taken to install one Helicoil® insert using manual tooling was on average 60 seconds the bearing housing required 30 Helicoil® inserts, so the average time taken to complete one bearing was 30 minutes.
Böllhoff Armstrong's engineers recommended and supplied its pneumatic installation tooling Type P-PSG. The tool’s exchange units have the installation depth of the Helicoils® set by compensating discs and the tool was supplied complete with a Parallel Arm System Type S600. This method of installation was recommended by Böllhoff Armstrong because of the production volume resulting in an 80% efficiency improvement in production time compared with the previous hand tool installation.
