NPE 2024, also known as the National Plastics Event, is conference where engineers from various sectors exchange ideas and showcase technology within the global plastics industry.

Specifically, the Toray Group – which comprises multiple divisions – will showcase a range of synthetic fibres, engineering plastics, performance chemicals, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membranes, and continuous carbon fibre materials solutions.

Next-Gen EV Mobility Thermal Management

Toray Resin and Toray Resin Mexico will showcase the latest developments in Torelina PPS technology, used in various materials for thermal management and cooling applications within the electric vehicle (EV) industry where lightweighting and performance improvement can extend EV automotive performance.

Torelina PPS technology is a component in the evolution of the automotive sector towards more efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly EVs. Its advanced capabilities make it a preferred choice for thermal management, emission reduction, and safety applications in the future automotive industry.

Toray Industries will display 3D printed parts made by Toraymill PPS. Using a polymer design technology, this PPS powder was developed for additive manufacturing (3D printing) to provide a plastic with electrical characteristics which are tailored for the needs of not only ICE but also EV and fuel cell vehicles, robotics, industrial equipment and aerospace.

High-Performance Infrastructure

Toray Fluorofibers America will present Matrix-Spun PTFE flock fibres as a solution for infrastructure applications. Compounding them into thermoplastics and thermosetting resins is said to provide superior low wear and low friction. Flock fibres can be mixed with wet-laid structures for a range of applications. A variety of different cut lengths and denier sizes also offer flexible solutions for a multitude of friction issues.

Green Energy Storage

Toray Composite Materials America will feature a hydrogen tank manufactured with next-gen Torayca T1100 carbon fibre used to produce a vessel with the ability to withstand the highest pressure for renewable energy storage solutions. Torayca carbon fibre is claimed to be recognised for its performance, quality, and consistency in processing for applications ranging from energy, aerospace, sports, automotive, and transportation.

Sports and Recreation

Toray Advanced Composites USA will display a mountain bike produced with Toray Cetex TC910 PA6 carbon fibre composite material, a complementing material to the recently announced Toray Cetex TC915 PA+.  TC915 PA+ is a strengthened polyamide for applications such as sporting goods and energy (oil & gas, Hydrogen), automotive, Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

Ultrafiltration and Reverse Osmosis Membrane Technology

Toray Membrane USA (TMUS) will display a Toray Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane for water treatment that removes dissolved solids from water. RO membranes are used worldwide in a range of applications, including pharma, automobile, dairy, food and beverage processing and ultrapure processes. Water purified by RO membranes for paint production is also standard in the automotive industry, and TMUS can provide silicone-free solutions when requested.
