New technology centre drives innovation

A new technology centre (TEC Center) at its headquarters in Neuwied, Germany, is Lohmann's resounding 'yes' to progress, innovation and a sustainable customer orientation

The main goal of this large-scale investment – three years in construction – was to unite all the technical functions under one roof and to demonstrate the company’s adhesive expertise in several ways. “Emphasis was placed on an innovative and functional architecture, which reflects the activities of the ‘Bonding Engineers’. How well this has been implemented becomes particularly apparent in the entrance area of the new building,” commented Lohmann. “This corresponds to the individual layers of an adhesive tape, which protrude from the building like a fan and are illuminated in the Lohmann colours at night.”

Pictured celebrating the new centre are, from left: Dr Evert Smit, global head of product development; Roger Churchill, managing director, Lohmann Technologies UK; and Andreas Tanzer, managing director BU Technical Products EMEA.

All Lohmann's expertise in the manufacture and application of adhesive solutions is depicted in this new building. This includes product development with the new Product Design Lab, the pilot coating line, the application technology (Application Design Lab), the process technology and the central test laboratory.

The High Performance Coating Line (HPCL) is a new multi-functional coating line and is the heart of the TEC Center. The HPCL is capable of coating all materials and a variety of chemistries, based on a reduced web width. It is also suitable for pre-production runs and very special customer demands. The whole line can be run under clean-room conditions. Meanwhile, the application engineering laboratory (Application Design Lab) houses customer-specific and market segment-oriented demonstration and testing facilities.

“This facility allows our technical and marketing teams to work with customers in a far more professional and collaborative way,” said Roger Churchill. “I am sure it will also encourage new blood into the organisation, as it is a fantastic environment in which work and be creative.”

The TEC Center has already been used as a representative reception and conference centre for customers and visitors, with in-house trade fairs, symposia or conferences taking place there. This activity will be further expanded.
