New Araldite acrylate structural adhesive is low-odour and non-flammable

Araldite 2080 adhesive is a new low-odour and primer-free structural acrylate adhesive with a flashpoint greater than 60ºC. As an industry first, the new adhesive solves many of the long-standing issues manufacturers have had to endure when using traditional (MMA), (PU), and other adhesive products.

Manufacturer Huntsman says: “For decades, manufacturers across the transportation, wind and general assembly industries have used traditional methyl methacrylate and polyurethane-based adhesives for structural bonding applications. Yet when using these traditional products, manufacturers experience an aggressive odour, flammability issues, high toxicity profiles, and added production time for surface preparation. Araldite 2080 adhesive from Huntsman solves these issues, while also providing high bond strength and elongation, better flowability, and faster cure times. Furthermore, the new adhesive helps to reduce costs with no need for primers or designated flammable storage areas, while requiring less need for protective equipment and extensive training.”

Araldite 2080 is said to have low odour – up to 90% less smell than traditional MMA products, a non-flammable classification as flashpoint is over 60ºC, does not require a primer as PU and epoxy products do, and has an improved GHS classification (toxicity profile), which means users will save on personal protective equipment costs.
