Needle-bonding adhesive provides easy cure confirmation and post-cure inspection

The latest medical device adhesive from Dymax is LED curable, facilitating fast cures at both 385 and 405 nm wavelengths. It has a low viscosity of 150 cP, making it ideal for tight-tolerance needle-bonding applications.

Codenamed 1405-M-UR-SC, the adhesive is formulated with Encompass technology, which incorporates See-Cure colour change and Ultra-Red fluorescing technologies with LED-curing capabilities into one product. As a result, manufacturers gain efficiencies from rapid on-demand curing with easy cure confirmation and post-cure bond-line inspection.

While in an uncured state, the adhesive is blue in colour for easy verification of placement. As the product cures with sufficient exposure to UV light, its blue colour transitions to colourless and provides obvious visual confirmation that the adhesive is fully cured and the bond site secure.

After cure, the product fluoresces bright red under low-intensity black light (365 nm), contrasting extremely well on plastics that naturally fluoresce blue in colour (like PVC). This allows manufacturers to incorporate automated or manual quality inspection to verify complete and accurate placement of the adhesive after cure.

The product is also available in a high-viscosity version at 7.000 cP and offers good dispense control for larger bond gaps. Both types are suitable for bonding stainless steel, PC, PMMA, and ABS.
