Henkel sponsors world class racing team

It's a nail-biting time for this year's UH Racing, the Formula Student' team based at the University of Hertfordshire. It's now that the engineering undergraduates are turning their design concepts into reality. They are constructing their latest generation racing car and fine tuning its performance in readiness for this year's hotly contested competition.

As in previous years, Henkel is sponsoring UH Racing for the 2014 season. The company's Loctite brand of engineering adhesive products are used extensively in the automotive industry and this technology has helped UH Racing achieve its impressive performance on track. Henkel's involvement with Formula Student is an active one as the company provides expert advice on adhesive bonding and sealing and gives the students ready access to products that are proven both by automotive OEMs and also in the field of motorsport. There is a lot at stake for UH Racing this year as the team's predecessors have raised the bar, year on year. UH Racing is now the most successful UK Formula Student team of all time and currently ranked 24th in the world out of over 500 teams. Dr Howard Ash, senior lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, said: "Being named the top UK team last year showcased the enormous talent and knowledge base our final year master's and undergraduate students have to create and race such a technically advanced car. We are grateful to Henkel and all of our sponsors for their help and support in order for us to achieve this." In the team's 16 year history, it has won numerous awards and has entered competitions across the world with cutting edge petrol, electric and hydrogen powered cars. And this year it is again seeking to uphold its reputation for innovation. This year's model, UR17, is still under wraps but the team is hoping it has the winning edge for its inaugural appearance at Silverstone in July this year. Tickets for the event are available from the organisers The Institute of Mechanical Engineers at www.imeche.org. The project showcase and unveiling of the 2014 Formula Student racing car is planned for 18th June.
