FAST Live Exhibitor provides interesting metal bonding solution for Ford Components

1 min read

When Ford Component Manufacturing needed a quick, simple and practical assembly solution for one of its laminated metal shim pack products, FAST Live exhibitor Intertronics provided the ideal answer. Ford’s edgepeel is a pack that provides a number of shims to specific customer requirements, and which can be quickly and easily selected at the point of assembly, therefore speeding up production.

These thin steel shims are normally held together by their oil coating alone, but in a recent specialist application, a more robust solution was required. Following trials, a bonding solution from Intertronics proved ideal, in the form of its DYMAX Multi-Cure 6-621 adhesive together with a UV curing spot lamp and a Fisnar adhesive dispenser.

When the system, which is designed to provide excellent bonding onto metal combined with easy dispensing and a fast UV/visible light cure, was tested on the oil coated laminate steel shims it proved entirely successful. The key was in achieving a tiny bond line on the very edge of the shims. This minute bond line, combined with the presence of the oil coating across the remaining surface of the shims in the pack, enabled just the right level of adhesion for the task at hand, delivering the required combination of stability during storage and transit followed by clean separation of the shims when needed at the point of use. This adhesive system, together with many other innovative bonding ideas, solutions and products, will be available to see and discuss on the Intertronics stand at FAST Live.
