Bollhoff buys Helicoil trademark

As of 1 October 2021, German fastenings company Böllhoff Group has acquired the Helicoil trademark from Stanley Engineered Fastening, on a worldwide basis.

In North America, Böllhoff Group will licence back this trademark to Stanley Engineered Fastening for the automotive repair and non-automotive applications. There, OEM automotive applications for Helicoil and wire thread inserts will be served by Böllhoff Group, while automotive repair and aftermarket applications and other industries will be served by Stanley Engineered Fastening. The remainder of the globe will be served by Böllhoff Group.

The Helicoil thread insert has remained unchanged over the past decades. It creates high-strength fastenings in materials with low shear strength such as aluminium, magnesium or fibre-reinforced plastics. The fastener is said to be suited to lightweight construction.

The Helicoil thread reinforcement principle was developed and patented in the USA as early as 1938. In 1954, Josef Böllhoff acquired a licence for the production and sale of Helicoil thread inserts for the Böllhoff Group. In the following 67 years, the thread insert was said to contribute to Böllhoff's success like no other product.
