Weight of quick connector is halved

A new design for a push and seal quick connector for use in automotive under-bonnet applications has reduced the overall weight of the component by more than 40% following demand from automotive manufacturers who more and more request less weighty connectors that can be assembled rapidly.

NORMA Group has developed the PS3 quick connector for cooling water systems in passenger cars. The wall thickness of the connector's plastic housing has been halved so that the overall weight of the element could be reduced. The structural dimensions of the new design have become even more compact which makes the connector suitable for narrow spaces. The quick connector's performance is maintained at the same high level of the old design. Bernd Kleinhens, member of the NORMA Group Management Board and responsible for business development explained: "The optimised design of the quick connector helps to reduce the overall weight of cooling water systems and at the same time to cut down on fuel consumption. We are proud that this development can support our customers in improving their end products and in saving precious resources." The connector is made from recyclable materials and is characterised by a rapid assembly without tools. An integrated retainer allows for mounting and dismounting the quick connector easily. Assembly in fully automated processes is also possible. An incorporated O-ring keeps the connection tight. The new plastic housing of the quick connector can be used with a VDA standard spigot.
