Self-drilling screws

Emhart Teknologies has launched a branded line of Parker-Kalon self-drilling screws.

The Grip-Kwick range combines two of the company's designs "to provide superior performance over ordinary self-drilling screws in cutting speed and final torque load", says product manager Mike Knipple. "The first technology of the process used to form the threads and points of the screws results in tough, extremely sharp cutting edges that ensure that the screw bites in to sheet metal quickly and cuts a clean hole. The second technology is the placement of metal-forming serrations on the underside of the screw head which creates a locking capability for the screws. The serrations cold form the surface area of the base material under the head during assembly. This locks the screw and the sheet metal layers together faster and tighter than ordinary screws and this is achieved without any appreciable spin-out." Grip-Kwick products are expected to find use in the manufacturing of white goods, sheet metal assemblies, and heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment. .
