Protective caps

A range of caps, manufactured in Germany by Radolid, is being distributed in this country by James Walker RotaBolt "as part of the company's joint integrity service", says managing director Rod Corbett.

The products are designed to provide protection for bolts, bolt ends, nuts, and screws against corrosion, humidity, and operational damage. "They are expected to be used in industries such as manufacturing, transport, offshore, wind energy, engineering, and processing reducing maintenance costs and down-times and helping to improve operational efficiencies." The caps were developed by Radolid's founder, Horst Thiel, who got the idea after struggling to change rusted nuts on his VW Beetle. The design features a special clamping edge and sealing lip. The current range encompasses a variety of caps from self-cutting threaded caps to special caps for Allen screws. The latest addition - ESW/EBM - has been developed for use in offshore applications and features a see-through cover. James Walker is offering the caps with its two lubricants, Graphite and Molyon. "In addition to their anti-seize properties the lubricants help to minimise effort by reducing tightening torque, fostering better and more controlled tightening conditions, and reducing wear on tooling", reports Rod Corbett. "The availability of the caps means that we can add value to what we offer as a centre of excellence in tension control and bolting technology. The protection that the caps deliver complements the company's ability to assure bolted joint integrity."
