HIGHER SPEED JOINING OF MULTIPLE MATERIALS

RIVTAC from Bollhoff Fastenings is the joining method of choice in an increasing number of applications where speed of assembly, a strong joint and minimal cost are key considerations when joining metals, aluminium, plastic or composite materials: or any combination thereof in sandwich layers.

Installation is a single stroke affair with no pre-drilling required, and as a blind fastener it is installed from a single side, rendering it ideal for applications where accessibility at the point of joining is difficult. Typical installation cycle times vary between applications but Bollhoff states that 0.9 to 1.5 seconds encompasses almost all uses.

The method behind the success of RIVTAC is simple yet highly effective: fastener insertion is high-speed, and as the tack enters the parent material its ogival point heats the material which has been displaced and allows it to enter the grooves on the shank of the fastener. The head of each RIVTAC is shaped so that it exerts a clamping force onto the upper surface of the host material, thus adding further strength to that already delivered by the gripping action on the shank itself.

The result is a firm fix with excellent pull-out performance, good aesthetics and a positive cost-comparison with alternative fastening options. As an example of its cost efficiency, Bollhoff claims that compared to self-tapping fasteners, RIVTAC insertion is 3 times faster.
