Weighing and counting system

At the igus plastic components manufacturing facility in Northamptonshire a Mettler Toledo counting system has been installed - with an Ethernet interface, printer, mini keyboard, and barcode scanner.

A weighing and counting system was required by igus so that it could store and edit all of about 4000 individual components at the plant on a single, networked database, as well as printing complex labels featuring product images. Mettler Toledo's BBK462 scale is capable of weighing the entire range - from 10mg to 140g. Its database records and stores information on all components, each of which can be individually defined and entered or called up via a barcode or the keyboard. The product has five label templates with the capacity to include images - reducing errors as operators can check that a picture matches a part number. "The scale is an ideal solution", reports Rob Dumayne, technical sales manager for igus. "It is easy to use and ensures that our storage and weighing processes work smoothly despite the fact that we are dealing with thousands of components."
