Washdown shaft collars

1 min read

Massachusetts based Ruland Manufacturing has developed a shaft collar for high pressure washdown applications. This patent pending design contains a 303 stainless steel shaft collar, male and female shrouds made from FDA compliant materials and three O-rings with FDA compliant lubrication. They are well suited for highly corrosive washdown applications found in food processing, packaging, and medical industries.

The shroud protects the encased stainless steel shaft collar from the outside environment, eliminating external features known to trap foreign particles that promote the growth of harmful bacteria. The shroud is the only element that requires washdown, reducing cleaning time significantly. Ruland's exclusive design is pending an IP69K washdown rating against the ingress of water during high-temperature power washing applications of up to 1,000 PSI. To maintain compliance standards, stainless steel set screw or plastic clamp style shaft collars are normally used at the cost of effectiveness. They can also pose hazards if not cleaned properly. Ruland's washdown shaft collar maintains performance standards similar to clamp style shaft collars including not marring the shaft, easy adjustments and high holding power while being safe and regulatory compliant. Washdown shaft collars are supplied with a zinc-coated forged alloy screw for maximum holding power and are available for shaft sizes ranging from ¼ inch to 1 inch or 6 mm to 25 mm. They are part of Ruland's complete shaft collar line which also includes: one- and two- piece clamp styles, quick clamping, threaded, bearing locknut, heavy duty, double wide, and set screw. The products are distributed in the UK by Techdrives Lenze Ltd.
