Records help meet welding standard

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products now offers certified welding procedure qualification records (WPQR) for MIG/MAG and MMA welding to assist fabricators in complying with the requirements of EN 1090, the European standard governing the execution of steel and aluminium structures.

As of July 1, 2014, EN 1090 replaces all national standards and requires manufacturers of structural work made from steel or aluminium in all EU countries to conform to this new quality standard. Fabricators can reduce the time and expense of achieving qualified weld production processes by using tested and approved WPQRs from which users can create the necessary welding procedure specifications (WPS) required to obtain certification under EN 1090. Welding specialist ESAB has developed qualified welding procedure qualification records that cover consumables commonly used in structural steel fabrication, including solid metal wires, flux-cored wires and metal-cored wires such as OK AristoRod 12.50, OK Autrod 12.51, and Coreweld 46LS. The WPQRs cover all inverter-based and digital chopper series machines the company currently offers, including Origo Mig, Aristo Mig and Warrior models. The records can be applied to many machines which are already in use. ESAB's WPQRs are approved for steel constructions (EN 1090-2) of Execution Class (EXC) 2. They are fully certified by Germany's TÜV Rheinland. For more information on ESAB's EN 1090 solution, including instructions on how to order WPQRs, visit www.esab.com/EN1090
