POSITIONING PINS FOR SLIDING COMPONENTS

1 min read

A spring-loaded plunger assembly from PennEngineering serves as reliable positioning pin to locate racks, slides, access panels, consoles and similar equipment when moving to new positions.

Type PTL2 spring-loaded plunger assemblies can be quickly moved without the use of tools and a lockout feature in the standard product line keeps the fastener's spring-loaded plunger fully retracted until the plunger pin drops into final position. A simple quarter-turn of the fastener activates the retracted locking and unlocking functions. The plunger assemblies install permanently in aluminium or steel sheets as thin as 0.060in / 1.53mm with hardness of HRB 80 or less. Their engineering allows the reverse side of the sheet to remain flush when the plunger is retracted. Easy installation begins with a properly sized mounting hole in the host metal sheet. The fastener is placed into a recessed anvil and then the punch side of the work piece is placed over the fastener's shank. With punch and anvil surfaces parallel, squeezing force is applied until the shoulder of the fastener's retainer comes into contact with the sheet material, which completes the installation process. For applications where the lockout feature is unnecessary, companion Type PSL2 spring-loaded plunger assemblies can be supplied on special order.
