Multi-purpose bioplastic launched

Ward Polymers is promoting its BioGaer bioplastics, designed for single-use, thin-wall applications and are ideal for items that are disposed on a daily basis.

Although they remain stable when dry and indoors, products produced from the BioGaer material will decompose in a matter of months, and also contribute to the decomposition of other items in the compost by encouraging the microorganisms to feed, multiply and thrive.

Grades come in silver, green and black as standard, and a food-contact compliant grade 5530 is also available. The materials are said to be suitable for processing on conventional machinery and equipment, such as injection moulding, profile extrusion and cast films. Blow moulding and blow film grades are in development, but not yet available.

Ward Polymers states that the material is stable in its molten state, providing the operator balances screw speed, back pressure and process temperatures to control melt temperature.
