Hybrid technology takes centre stage

HENKEL has again chosen the FAST Show event – Thursday, 20 September, at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford (http://www.fastenerexhibition.co.uk) – to showcase its new range of LOCTITE Universal Structural Bonders.

These structural bonders’ many attributes have been achieved through new, patented hybrid technology. This innovative approach substantially extends the application scope of these adhesives, both in maintenance & repair and design & assembly.

The four LOCTITE Universal Structural Bonders that complete the range combine the qualities of different adhesive types to achieve bond strength, speed of cure and durability, providing improved performance on a variety of substrates and the versatility to solve many more structural bonding challenges. They are also said to afford improved health and safety benefits and carry minimal hazard labelling.

“As LOCTITE HY 4060 GY cures in just five minutes, in a wide range of operating conditions and even at low temperatures, it is the ideal choice for fast and effective repair,” stated HENKEL. “It also has good gap-filling ability – up to 5mm – and provides excellent resistance to moisture, temperature extremes and chemicals.”

LOCTITE HY 4070 provides ultra-fast fixturing and bond strength on most plastics or plastic/metal combinations and on rubber materials. “This hybrid is a must-have in any maintenance tool box - one product for multiple applications. It therefore simplifies the adhesive selection process, reduces inventory and need for storage,” added the company.

For design engineers, LOCTITE hybrids allow plastics, metals and composites to be freely combined, and have the potential to improve assembly applications, streamline process steps and bond materials in applications with difficult requirements. LOCTITE HY 4080, for example, is ideal for joining dissimilar materials on products destined for operation in challenging conditions, such as extreme temperatures and high vibration.

Completing the range and the second product designed for the production environment is LOCTITE HY 4090, which provides “exceptional adhesion and strength on plastic/metal combinations and rubber materials”. Fast fixturing reduces assembly time and a robust cure is quickly achieved, even at a low temperature.
