Epoxy resin systems receive type approval

1 min read

A range of epoxy resin systems from Huntsman Advanced Materials, which are seeing increasing usage in the application of composites across the marine industry, have received certification from the Lloyd's Register Type Approval.

The five certified systems target different processes or applications including composites tooling, repairs and structural parts production: Araldite LY 1564/Aradur 3486 and Araldite LY 1564/Aradur 3487 are robust systems with strong track records of successful applications in large composite parts via infusion processing. The two compatible hardeners allow system's reactivity adjustment by simple blending at a constant resin/hardener mixing ratio. Araldite LY 1564/Aradur 3486 presents viscosity and pot life making it suitable for several other production processes such as wet lay-up, RTM, filament winding or pultrusion. Araldite LY 1568/Aradur 3489 thanks to its low exothermic behaviour and its long pot life is the ideal solution for producing thick structures up to 50mm using infusion processing. This system is also suitable for RTM, wet lay-up or filament winding production processes. Araldite LY 3505/XB 3403 is the candidate of choice for the wet-lay-up process. RenLam CY 219/Ren HY 5160 has been designed to satisfy requirements of repair applications with room temperature curing capabilities. Designed to ensure products meet recognised standards or specifications, the impartial verification and certification service provided by the Lloyd's Register Type Approval is widely referred to by designers and engineers across the marine industry during the product selection process. Increasing demands for high performance materials and advanced rapid production techniques in marine applications represent a key factor in Huntsman's development of new products. The company says it is committed to offering products that are designed to meet specific marine composites construction challenges.
