Demonstrating pick and place operations

The igus range of components for use in pick and place operations are being demonstrated in a variety of ways next week with the introduction of a video showing how the company's components can work in combination to produce a complete system, which can be used in sophisticated industrial robotic and automated applications that require sensing, rotating, pick and place, and linear motion.

But for a face-to-face explanation of how the components fit together, representatives of the company will be attending the FAST Exhibition on October 18th to answer visitors' questions and discuss specific engineering problems.

The intelligent application featured in the video demonstrates how parts of a jigsaw puzzle can be identified and then re-assembled correctly by using automatic assembly equipment. igus' specialises in the components with moving parts, which have been used in this machine for sensing and selecting the jigsaw pieces. There is also a multi-axis articulated joint which has bearings made from a specially formulated plastic material called iglidur J and various linear actuator modules that move cable chains to desired points.

The video can be viewed at www.igus.co.uk/videos/igusexhibit but for full information, engineers should visit the igus stand at the FAST Exhibition at the National Motorcycle Museum.
