Self-clinching nuts for the edges of thin metal sheets

PEM SMPS self-clinching nuts can be mounted permanently in "ultra-thin" metal sheets (0.025in) while maintaining edge of sheet to centre of fastener distances (0.145in), states PennEngineering.

"A lower profile design with small diameter (0.220in) and low height (0.065in) adds to their suitability for applications in which space for attachment hardware is limited", reports Michael Rossi. "The nuts are described as providing strong and reusable threads. A single mating screw completes the assembly. No other attachment hardware is required and the nuts will not loosen, fall out, or otherwise adversely impact end-product integrity or performance." Made from 300 series stainless steel, the nuts are offered in Unified (#2-56 to #6-32) and metric (M2.5 to M3.5) sizes. In situations in which hardware must be installed prior to painting or similar, the company's Blu-Coat mask can be applied in advance. Threads of the mating hardware will remove paint, electrodeposited automotive undercoatings, and weld spatter upon application of torque.
