Securing bonding to new low energy surface coatings

As better paint finishes are adopted by the automotive sector, adhesive systems are being developed to guarantee bonding performance on such low energy surface coatings.

And to meet these special requirements, tapes specialist Lohmann has developed and introduced a new product range for bonding to these new surface coatings. The acrylic adhesive tapes from the DuploCOLL NP range consist of a foam carrier and a special acrylic adhesive mass. The tapes immediately develop a good tack, particularly on modern dirt-repellent and scratch-resistant coating systems. In addition they offer excellent performance in relation to peel and shear forces in the final bonding. Another advantage of the new generation of adhesive tapes is that it can be used without additional liners, as the edges of the adhesive tapes are non-adhesive and therefore cannot contaminate the working area. Lohmann tell us the new tapes can be used for applications such as bonding of sill sheeting, tread plates and door covers.
