Protecting cash on a luxury cruise liner

The crew of the new cruise liner Queen Elizabeth has the benefit of making cashless payments with a rechargeable payment card.

The payment system was designed and manufactured by Protouch Solutions Ltd, which is well known for its kiosks and touch screens. But a lock manufactured by Camlock Systems keeps the money safe. With a crew of over 1,000, the owners of the luxury liner feared there could be security problems if each crew member had to carry money around with them to make cash transactions. But with its Xen4 cabinet, Protouch has developed an ideal solution to avoid cash transactions on board. Crew-members simply insert their payment cards into one of the machines and charge it using cash. After topping up, the card can be used for day to day expenditure on board. In order to protect the cash in the kiosks, Protouch selected the P491 high security pushlock, designed and manufactured by Camlock Systems. The mechanism of this lock uses the patented Octagon system, which prevents unauthorised access with a duplicate key. A unique key combination is available for keyed alike suites of this robust and highly durable lock, which can be registered to provide the highest level of key control.
