Pierce and clinch nut for thick panels

1 min read

The REN nut is the latest addition to the range of high-strength pierce and clinch fastening products offered by Profil. "The product was designed to meet the requirements of a manufacturer of heavy goods vehicles", explains Profil's Adrian Ellis.

"However, its suitability for thicker materials means that it can be used for metal fabrications on safety-critical assemblies for other commercial vehicle and off-road producers." Developed to provide "exceptional" torque and pull-through performance in panels up to 9.00mm thick, the REN nut is suited to applications subject to intense dynamic, static, and shock loading such as those found in vehicle chassis and suspension assemblies. It is available with M8 to M16 threads and can be used in plain or coated materials in aluminium, magnesium, steel, stainless steel, and high-strength steel. In addition, the product features a large flange and a series of under-head ribs that bite into the base material for additional torque resistance, reports Adrian Ellis. "As regards installation the nut can be inserted automatically in pressed components as part of a production process or installed as a secondary operation into pre-pierced holes to provide vibration-resistant, watertight fixings with a virtually flush finish at the rear of the panel. "Providing an absolute positional accuracy of ±0.2mm the REN nut offers piece-part cost and installation speed advantages over products such as rivet nuts and welded anchors."
