Laser marking will improve traceability

1 min read

In the coming months of 2011, bolt securing specialist Nord-Lock is introducing a laser marking on each washer pair, which will include the Nord-Lock brand, the control number and a type code.

The company suggests that this new feature will offer added value for the users since it improves traceability and control. Nord-Lock says that its customers have the most demanding applications and require maximum control. With laser marked Nord-Lock products, customers can ensure full traceability down to first assembly even when using bin-systems for fasteners and avoid counterfeit components. It should be pointed out, however, that the marking does not last during reuse; after tightening and untightening it will in most cases be unreadable. Nord-Lock is therefore encouraging users to take note of control numbers prior to first assembly. Using the type code marking, the user can also verify the type of washer being applied. The markings are divided into three areas where the type code consists of 2-4 digits confirming the coating for steel washers or the alloy for stainless steel washers. Challenges behind the solution The Nord-Lock production plant near Östersund in Sweden has conducted rigorous testing and quality assurance before the change, the company states.
