Fasteners will be lasermarked for traceability

1 min read

Demanding applications and require maximum quality control of fastening products can now benefit from improved traceability as locking washer specialist Nord-Lock is gradually introducing a laser marking for each washer pair it produces.

The mark will include the brand name, the control number and a type code. This new feature, says the company, offers added value for users since it improves traceability and control. Nord-Lock says that its rigorous testing and traceability routines make it different in the fastener industry. And with laser marked products, the user can ensure full traceability down to first assembly even when using bin-systems for fasteners. With the type code marking, the user can verify the type of washer being fitted. The markings are divided into three areas where the type code consists of 2-4 digits confirming the coating for steel washers or the alloy for stainless steel washers. The company is quick to point out, however, that the marking does not last during reuse; after tightening and untightening it will in most cases be unreadable. Users should therefore take note of control numbers prior to first assembly. Meet Nord-Lock at the FAST Exhibition SOUTHWEST, 12th May 2011, Haynes Motor Museum near Yeovil.
