The metal above the slot is set to de-pitch the threads so that when the nut is tightened on to a bolt the thread is gripped on the flank. When fully inserted, the elasticity of the metal allows the slot to press upon the male thread and provide a locking effect." The product is stated to be capable of operation in temperatures from -50ºC to +450ºC and can be re-used up to five times. It also is available in brass and aluminium. .
