Double-slotted nuts

Alcoa Fastening Systems has launched, through its distributor, Harrison & Clough, the SNEP DAH range of zinc-passivated carbon steel and stainless steel, double-slotted nuts.

The products are expected to find applications in the truck, trailer, commercial vehicle body-builder, automotive, and railcar markets, says marketing manager Jay Sahadew. "Designed for use where there is vibration that may lead to fastener loosening, the self-locking function is created by an axial deformed slot. The metal above the slot is set to de-pitch the threads so that when the nut is tightened on to a bolt the thread is gripped on the flank. When fully inserted, the elasticity of the metal allows the slot to press upon the male thread and provide a locking effect." The product is stated to be capable of operation in temperatures from -50ºC to +450ºC and can be re-used up to five times. It also is available in brass and aluminium. .
