bigHead Bonding Fasteners is continuing its investment in innovation with the appointment of Dr Lawrence Cook.

He has joined bigHead from Cranfield University Enhanced Composites and Structures Centre where he was a Research Fellow in Composites Manufacturing.

During his time at Cranfield, Cook worked on the design, manufacturing and mechanical testing of composites structures, in particular the joining of polymer composite and metallic multi-material structures.

With a background in industrial product design and adhesive applications engineering, he will now ensure that bigHead customers have access to even more expertise as they face the challenges of multi-material joining through the increased use of lightweight composite materials.

Of his new appointment, he commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity to join the bigHead team, and it presents exciting prospects for working together with customers and partners through long-term relationships and new engagements. I very much look forward to contributing to bigHead’s drive for innovation and excellence in developing fastening and joining solutions for composites, other materials and multi-materials in many applications.”.

Bighead continues to work on a wide range of projects and applications with design engineers in the automotive, wind power, marine, rail and construction sectors. With over 50 years’ experience and expertise to draw on, bigHead’s emphasis remains firmly on providing engineering solutions where innovative form and function, and associated production costs, are not compromised by their fastening.

Current innovation projects range from reducing the fastening time for thin carbon panels from hours to seconds, to dramatically streamlining the assembly of composite construction panels on buildings.
