Plastics are increasingly becoming a prevalent substance in vehicle production and are key to the future of light-weighting the next generation of fuel-efficient automobiles. For every 10% saved in vehicle weight, there is a 5-7% reduction in fuel consumption. Plastics offer strength and rigidity but with so many different types available, bonding together reliably has never been a simple process. Traditionally, plastics would be bonded by either clips, gluing or using costly ultrasonic welding.

Made from a single layer performance polymer foam, tesa® HiP is a low VOC adhesive tape capable of bonding all common plastics immediately after application with no curing time. Eliminating plastic-to-plastic bonding restrictions, this range of tapes come in three different levels of thickness, tesa® 92105 (500µm), tesa® 92108 (800µm) and tesa® 92111 (1.1mm).

Typical application areas for tesa® HiP includes the assembly of door panels, cockpits, dashboards and instrument panels. The use of robot applicators can ensure the full automation of applying this adhesive tape.

Showing a reliable bond in temperatures ranging from -30°C to 100°C, manufacturers of interior applications can be confident in the tape’s temperature resistance properties. Furthermore, tesa® HiP shows outstanding performance in both dynamic shear resistance and pull resistance, which is often an essential requirement for component manufacturers.

Peter, for material with significant differences in thermal elongation we recommend our ACXplus series, based on acrylic cores backings. But for similare material properties on non polar substrates the new HIP series is ground breaking. regards Frank

Performance on plastic (which one?) is likely to be excellent - HiP tape is design for plastic/plastic. Performance to metal will depend on which type it is. If we could know more about the application, we could check which is the best solution and advise.
