Stanley Engineered Fastening's brand Avdel has introduced the Infalok range of large diameter, high tensile lockbolt fasteners. These fasteners are claimed to be 'exceptionally strong' and are capable of withstanding up to 30 tons tensile load. To install them, an equally heavy duty placing tool is required.

Avdel has not only been producing innovative blind fasteners for over 75 years – Avdel also has similar experience and in-house skills in the design and development of fastener installation tooling. Designed at Avdel's UK Technology Centre in Welwyn Garden City, the all-new AV range of placement tools has been launched with a complimentary range of pump units for placing high strength Infalok lockbolts as well as larger sizes of Avbolt structural blind fasteners. The tools incorporate the latest in hydraulic sealing and bearing technologies, higher-strength components and improved ergonomics compared to traditional tool designs in the market, it is claimed. In addition, a range of modern factored pump units, customised to Avdel's own specification by Enerpac has been launched to support the placing tool range. A company statement suggested that exhaustive in-house cyclic testing in engineered test-rigs together with extensive field trials have proven the robustness of the complete system. This high level of durability is a prerequisite in the tough and demanding construction and mining industries that use this equipment. Avdel's UK design engineers have also been developing a new hand-held pneumatic riveting tool for installing smaller Avbolt fasteners and Avdelok lockbolts. The 73200 tool with its "clean sheet" design exemplifies the creative thinking and advanced engineering methods that keep Avdel ahead of its competitors. The hydraulic power system features an innovative, patent-pending reservoir system to simplify the whole design and offer greater reliability. State-of-the-art lip seals and bearings are employed to increase tool life and prevent oil-loss. This new tool is both faster and lighter than any existing traditional tool currently in the market and has been subject to the most rigorous durability testing and field trials before launch to ensure dependable operation for years to come.
