Intertronics' sales partnership with plasma treatment company Relyon is now yielding strong dividends

Intertronics' sales partnership with plasma treatment company Relyon Plasma, announced last year, is now bringing advanced technology within reach of UK manufacturers.

Explained Intertronics MD Peter Swanson: “Plasma surface treatment can be a very effective way to activate a surface, in order to prepare it for bonding or printing, enabling improved wetting and adhesion. We are delighted to add Relyon products and technologies to our portfolio where they augment our offerings in adhesives, protective coatings and the equipment needed to apply them.”

Relyon plasma surface treatment can improve adhesion and wetting on difficult-to-bond plastics, like polyethylene, polypropylene and other polyolefins. It is both highly efficient and environmentally friendly, does not affect the bulk properties of the treated part and does not mark or discolour the treated surface.

Plasma treatment offers advantages in industries, such as medical devices, automotive, electronics, consumer goods, food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It can be incorporated into production using manual, semi or fully automated equipment. In addition to surface activation, there are potential uses in sterilisation, reduction of volatile organic compounds, improvement of powder wetting, and oxide reduction. The technique typically uses atmospheric air, but is capable of using other gases, where needed.
