Olympic committee may not be playing the game

Recent media reports have suggested that only 8% of the London Olympics 2012 promotional goods being offered for sale by the event's organising committee LOCOG are manufactured in the UK.

Outraged UK manufacturers believe that this is a most unsatisfactory situation and that questions should be asked. FAST managing director Mark Newby has taken up the challenge and written to LOCOG to establish whether these allegations are true and why more UK manufacturers have not been involved in supplying merchandise for the Games. Newby finds it regrettable that the organisers have chosen not to reveal that 92% of the branded goods commissioned so far are made outside the UK. So can the Games be 'Good for British business' as LOCOG publicity suggests? Newby has demanded an assurance that British manufacturing companies were invited to supply the goods before overseas contracts were awarded. The letter also sought clarification of the causal factors that led to the contracts being awarded offshore. We keenly await developments so watch this space!
