Locating and locking made easy

Where it is vital to secure tooling and base plates quickly and effectively, the right solution is a must.

In industrial applications where it is vital to secure tooling and base plates quickly and effectively, standard components specialist norelem has launched a new locating cylinder with a quick clamping system, to save operators more time when setting up.

The clever design requires only a quarter rotation to tighten the thrust screw. This, in turn, forces three locking balls outwards, locking into place in the receiver bush to prevent any linear or rotary motion.

The locating cylinder is made from burnished high alloy steel. norelem supplies it in three bolt diameters – 13, 16 and 20 mm – and in several bolt lengths. The cylinder is designed to offer repeat accuracy of up to ± 0.013 mm and low headroom. Since the interaction of the cylinder and receiving bush makes stripping possible, the locating balls and the location hole are therefore protected from overload, for reliable long-term performance.

“This is a simple, mechanical locating system, which means plates can be securely locked into place in seconds, using just a hexagonal wrench. It’s part of norelem’s commitment to deliver well-engineered, easy-to-use parts that make life easier in manufacturing and industrial environments,” says Marcus Schneck, CEO of norelem.

Locating cylinders are available in THE BIG GREEN BOOK, norelem’s free-to-order catalogue of standard components. THE BIG GREEN BOOK is available to order by contacting thebiggreenbook@norelem.co.uk or visiting http://the-big-green-book.com/#Order.
