Cable connector clamps down on installation time

1 min read

A labour saving clamp connector, recently launched by Hylec-APL, can cut electrical installation times by up to 80%, therefore increasing profits for installers.

The patented K9 Clamp connector uses insulation displacement technology (IDT) to eliminate the need for stripping, twisting and physically connecting wires. And because of the IP33 rated dustproof and waterproof cage construction, there's no need to tape up newly created in-line or spurred connections and no risk of electric shock. In operation, unstripped cables are placed into each opening of the insulation displacement connector cage, which then snap shut to secure the wiring in place. Precision-sharpened connector blades cut through the insulating sheath, cold welding the wires to the connector's interior and creating an airtight connection between the wires. K9 is available in two shapes and a wide variety of sizes. The maximum voltage for every K9 product is 600V and the connectors are manufactured in RoHS compliant plastic and feature brass copper connector blades. Commenting on the launch, product marketing manager Terry Spriggs said: "Cutting, stripping and twisting cables – particularly when creating spurred connections – are among the most time-consuming elements of typical electrical installations. By eliminating these tasks and removing the need to tape up connections, the K9 Clamp connector can significantly boost the profitability of installers in a wide range of industry sectors."
