Adhesive tapes pass DIN flammability test

An adhesive tapes range from tesa, whose viscoelastic properties enable it to bond dissimilar materials, has been approved for use in rail transport since its fire retardant properties met standards set by Rail System Testing (RST) prescribed test methods.

ACXplus 7078 with a 2mm thickness was examined according to DIN 54837 in its evaluation under DIN 5510 part 2 and passed with flying colours. During the test the lower edge of a tape sample, hung vertically, was exposed to a gas burner flame in a combustion box for a period of 3 minutes and the results evaluated within three categories: flammability, smoke development and the capacity of forming drops. When the flame was removed, the sample was monitored for a further 2 minutes to determine its performance in all three categories.

RST laboratories test engineering samples, prototypes and other products in line with standards and regulations recognised internationally to govern product acceptability on grounds of thermal resistance, flammability and fire behaviour throughout the transport sector.
