Getting a handle on high tolerance automotive fixings

The automotive industry with its highly automatic assembly places demands on reliability and quality not just of the finished assembly but also of the fastening process itself. For example, a door handle installation requires the door trim below to be evenly fastened.

Böllhoff's FLEXITOL® fasteners solved the problem. The fastening system has adjustment and fastening elements. In the first assembly step, the tolerance compensation of the door module is mounted with one of Böllhoff's RIVNUT® blind rivet nuts. After that, the door handle is aligned in position. Upon tightening the screw, the compensation distance between door module and door handle is steplessly and automatically adjusted. The adjustment element is attached to the fastener via a left-hand thread. Tightening the screw clockwise, causes the adjustment element to expand until it compresses against the door handle. Then, the screw is tightened further until the assembly is secured by the screw's preload force.
