GlueOnline are excited to be showcasing a range of structural acrylics ideal for bonding polypropylene and polyethylene without the need to carry out any surface pre-treatment prior to bonding. Developed by Permabond® Engineering Adhesives, the materials are designed to bond untreated polyolefin surfaces, offering good impact strength and chemical resistance with a full cure at room temperature and an easy 1:1 mix ratio.
Thermoplastic polyolefins like polyethylene and polypropylene, and elastomers such as EPDM rubber are notoriously difficult to join; due to their excellent resistant to solvents - solvent welding doesn’t produce strong bonds and their very low surface energies mean adhesives generally do not wet-out the surface well enough without some form of surface treatment. The TA46XX challenges this status quo, offering the user time and cost savings by removing the need to flame, corona or plasma treat surface before bonding; recommended for adhering composites, e-coatings, EPDM, HDPE, LDPE, most metals, polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE without the need for a primer.
Ranging from fast cure options for large components and slow cure for larger surface areas, this versatile range includes 6 grades, with various viscosities, appearance, fixture time and handling time providing solutions to a wide array of application requirements. All are non-hazardous for transport, making shipping and storage simpler.
